“Why do I fear getting caught here more than this building collapsing?” Brandon said.
“Because you’re being paranoid again, Junior Agent,” Jioni replied.
While the girls looked around at the new area in aw, Brandon remained dormant with his arms to his side; he didn’t say anything, he looked at nothing. Jioni occasionally grabbed his hand whenever he wasn’t moving; every time he did decide to move from his fixed position, it was to check the watch on his wrist.
“Found the flashlight,” Jioni shouted, which prompted Kathy to stop her search.
Jioni tried turning it on, but it began to flicker every second. Annoyance pricked Jioni’s skin. The flashlight was only consistent when Jioni smacked it against her hand. “Either you broke it, or Hippie Girl gave me a defective one.”
“The latter, now let’s go—I’m getting impatient!” Kathy said. She stretched her arms. “Come on, Brandon, quit acting like you’re made of stone.”
