Once he was out of view, LaMesha scanned the area. Before the Tenebris situation, this was the same road where she attempted to “cure her boredom” at. It remained quiet as it did yesterday. She carefully ensured that her footsteps didn’t out-clack any dog whistle noise—crows flapped by, and LaMesha wished they would stay quiet just this second; the sun beamed down on her head, and sweat poured from her eyebrows to her face. She could hear the faint sound of guns going off in the distance.
“Come out already. I’m getting bored,” LaMesha said.
She grew impatient by the second—steps became slower—her wish soon became true as there was something other than crows or a shotgun, a rhythmic stepping sound ringing from behind. Before LaMesha could even make out the noise, a voice called out: “Behind you!”
