Multiple Tenebris phased in and around the area—Jioni’s hands shook; she waved her arms, trying to get anyone’s attention; she moved them in a desperate plea. Her mouth remained shut to avoid detection by the Tenebris. But Brandon and Jolene had already run off in the opposite direction—focused and undistracted.
Jioni narrowed her eyes. Giving up, she crept from behind the pole to now behind an overturned, rusted car.
Zeroing her attention back to the path of the clinic, which was a block over. She shuffled her hands around in her pockets, and her gaze darted around for a safe place to get by.
“Ok. Yesterday, I got too close, and it spotted me,” Jioni said as she crouched on the floor. “And if that thing follows me into the clinic, Emmit would kill me before the Tenebris does. What if–”
Jioni felt around the sidewalk and kept her attention forward; her hands glided around the concrete floor. She picked up the magenta crystals and spun them in her fingers.
