The Luxurious Life: 6-23

Derrin walked closer to her. “It may be too late, but it’s not the end of the world.”

“What?”

“It’s not the end of the world,” Derrin repeated as he sat on the floor with his legs crossed.

Jioni stopped her mind from pacing and sat across from him. She sat puzzled by his comment, but she listened intentively as he spoke.

“You’re 15, right? Yeah. When I was 15, my goal was also to become an Agent. I was so fixated on housing, GeoCreds, financial security, and a happy, respectful career that I didn’t think about the long-term ramifications. I wanted these things so quickly that I didn’t process my 40-year debt.”

“It’s just 40 years,” Jioni said.

“An irreversible debt of 40 years. I have to be an Agent for that long. When you’re 15, you never focus on that fact until it’s too late. If I could go back.” Derrin said. “Maybe If I didn’t worry so much about the status or what other people said, I’d be much more content. But you have time to decide what you want to be, what you want to do. Desperateness is never an excuse to be impatient. Anyways, it’s too late for me, but it’s not the end of the world for you.”
