Kathy held onto the paper but handed it back to Jioni. “Read it to me. I’m tired.”
“Ok,” Jioni said. She walked between them. “So Jolene reported my conversation with Brandon. She knows that we are leaving.”
“Ah yes, Jolene.” Kathy frowned. “Nothing gets past her crazy eyeballs. Especially with eyes as big as hers.”
“So what’s the plan,” Emmitt asked.
“I’m not sure, but maybe we should leave at night,” Jioni said. “Right? To be more discrete.”
“Sure, whatever,” Kathy joined in. “But a more important question is where to leave, not when.”
“I know who would know a good place to sneak out,” Emmitt said. “Hippie Girl back in the day used to sneak out and fight Tenebris for fun.”
“Why would she do something dumb like that,” Kathy asked begrudgingly. Her body was tense when Hippie Girl’s name was mentioned.
“To test her weapons, obviously.”
“That’s settled. We are going to Hippie Girl’s van to see if she knows any weak spots in the wall,” Jioni said. She tucked Brandon’s letter into her satchel and stood by the door frame.
“Is there anyone else we can ask? Maybe Mac or the three-eyed rats in the alleyway,” Kathy groaned. “I’d rather ask an Agent than Hippie Girl. Can we ask an Agent where to sneak out instead?”
But by then, Emmitt was already by the door frame, too, ready to leave.
