“Ok, wait, I’m coming. Let me pack some things ’cause I know you two didn’t think to bring any supplies,” Kathy said. She grabbed a backpack and filled it with fruit, an aid kit, and an instant camera, as well as other things she could find—mostly photos.
“I wish I had one of those shrinking backpacks. Instead, I have to carry this heavy hunk of junk around,” Kathy said.
Emmitt smiled and pointed. “I think in Amelia’s Prom, the book, she had to carry a backpack every day for school—it never once shrunk.”
“Do you know that for a fact?”
“Well, um.”
“Then stop spreading half-witted lies around,” Kathy said. She dug into the bag and pulled out a metal object. “Jioni, heads up.” She tossed something.
Jioni wasn’t paying attention, and the thing fell to the floor. It was the other pair to the wrench nunchucks. Jioni picked it up and began to swing it. “Hey, thanks!”
“I forgot to give it back to you. Anyway, I’m ready when you guys are.”
