Emmitt shook his head. “Anyway, of course, he’d think it’s a bad idea: he’s already a Junior Agent. The dude practiced becoming one as soon as he could walk—and his sister, a top student—his parents are also well respected and high ranking Agents.” Emmitt said, a tang of jealousy in his tone. “He has everything to lose and nothing to gain from leaving City Two.”
Jioni sat up straight again and began fiddling with her fingers. She heard something outside. Maybe the trees rustling or citizens taking a stroll—whatever it was caused Jioni to be suspicious; she stood up and pulled Emmitt closer to the escape door.
“You have to help me listen for Agents. I’ve only got one ear, you know. But Emmitt, yeah, I guess you’re right.”
“I’m always right, only seeing it as it is,” Emmitt said. “And I believe I know why you and I are so different from Brandon or his sister, Mac, and the others.”
“And why is that?” Jioni asked.
