The three sighed in relief. Jioni fell to the floor. She used her feet to scoot backward and then put her hands on her face. While Emmitt began to put out the fires around them.
Kathy came to Jioni’s side. “I’ve never seen you freeze like that. Are you ok?” Kathy put her arms around her.
Jioni couldn’t find the words to say. As much as she wanted to tell Kathy about the simulation incident with the mayor, Kathy wouldn’t believe her, just like Brandon didn’t—Jioni smiled at Kathy.
Kathy smiled back while confused. She shook Jioni with another hug and stood up. “It’s ok. You don’t have to say. Just know that I’ve got your back.”
