Kick-Butt Hunters: 12-30

“So you’re saying I can’t join if I want to support you?” Kathy asked.

“That’s exactly what I’m saying. You have my back, I understand, but I don’t want you to feel like you have to come.”

“But, if I feel like tagging along, I can, right?”

Jioni nodded yes—the irony of Kathy asking for permission wasn’t lost on her, she’s hard to read, especially her motives.

Something in Kathy’s voice seemed off.

Jioni was reluctant to repeat herself and hoped her friend was acting on her own fruition this time.

“You know, dummy, not everything revolves around you.” Kathy smiled. “I know I forced myself to come to the abandoned building, but this time I’m doing this for myself.”

Jioni frowned, still not buying it. She remained silent, which allowed Kathy to ramble on.

“Trust me—I want to see my mom. Plus, I only have so long before I grow out of the system, get kicked out of the youth boarding center, and then start having to make payments like you two.”

“It’s no fun,” Emmitt added.
