Jioni never gave up energy and kept her attention forward toward the building. Her sight was wobbly and blurred the faster she ran. The closer she got, the taller and more imperfect the tower looked. Her friend’s footsteps never stopped, but in time the sound faded the further away she got. She sighed, feeling relief knowing they had ended the chase, hopefully. She stopped running and instead jogged.
Jioni had reached the dilapidated apartment. It had been years since she’s been to this location and It was worse than the last time she came. The different smells produced by this building gave off its warning to stay away; the musty, pungent, mildew smell was present on the grey concrete apartment.
The number of cracks on the foundation and its semi-collapsed state gave it its hazardous reputation. The pillars on the side of the building curved. Trees and their roots tried to grow near. Everything was blocked off by yellow tape or vegetation.
