Agents and Juniors: 2-15

Jioni was the first to climb inside. She removed the tiny shards of glass on her hands that she received from touching the frame. She took a breath; Kathy followed next; she scanned the floor, trying to search for the flashlight she had thrown—she kicked wooden planks and other garbage around.

Brandon stood by the window. He looked behind him and then came inside slowly. Jioni couldn’t help but watch him: anything he touched, from the window to the dirt and moss on the walls, he dusted from his hands. He grimaced and shrunk as he folded his arms.

The lobby was huge due to the furniture inside being missing. Loose wires hung down where light fixtures were supposed to be. Paper and trash scattered across the floor, packed so tightly it almost looked glued on. The floor covered in dirt, and the garbage failed to decompose where it sat. This trash accompanied a deteriorating, chipped, and moldy wooden reception desk. They walked toward the stairs beside the desk.
