Brandon’s footsteps hurried as he raced down. Each step was loud and echoed across the groaning building as it shook. But Jioni’s mind jumped back to what he said: delinquent. Her eyes guttered with pain, what does he even mean by that other than exactly what it meant. Jioni held her arm but soon jolted at a faint thud in the distance; Brandon had tripped. Jioni’s eyes communicated a look of worry.
“We need to check on him,” Jioni said as she peered down the stairwell.
“He’s fine. He’s fine.” Kathy said as she extended the last note. She then tugged on Jioni. “Even if he just broke every bone in his body, he wouldn’t miss practice—but hey, good news, now it’s just us cool kids.”
“Yep, just us!” Jioni replied; the two high-fived. “Ok, let’s get this over with.”
