Jioni pointed her flickering light forward and analyzed the surrounding area: It was just numbered doors, decommissioned lamps, and an old rug. Before she could get a good picture, Kathy pulled her back into the stairwell. She covered her mouth and prevented Jioni from making noise.
 
“Dude, point your flashlight there. Do you see it?” Kathy whispered with slight panic in her tone. She uncovered her mouth.
 
A quiver ran down Jioni’s spine. “Are you messing with me again?” 
 
“I’m not,” Kathy replied in a strained whisper.
