Jioni kicked her legs and buckled her arms, but it did nothing. She felt a sharp pain in her arm and ear.
The bite was like nothing Jioni had felt before. Multiple knives stabbed her, and the blades seeped deep into her skin; it burned her flesh before settling to a cool. Jioni’s eyes widened, she tried to shake them off, but they wouldn’t let go. Tiny spurts of breath escaped, and her arm became heavier; cracks started to spread.
Kathy raced to help. She missed the Tenebris several times with her nunchuck. After the tenth failed strike, she grabbed anything from a nearby table and threw it aimlessly at each monster—a freed Jioni soon collapsed on the floor—and the Tenebris vaporized. Everything happened within three minutes, but it felt like an eternity. Jioni, still wide-eyed and in shock, said nothing as she sat on the floor distracted by the ringing in her left ear.
The building then shook once then stopped.
“We have to go,” Kathy said as she grabbed Jioni’s arm.
