Jioni attempted to match Kathy’s pace and lost her grip. She fell and grabbed Kathy’s leg; she passed her to the pipe below—the third story now collapsed on itself—immediately, the second floor. The pipe was no longer attached to the building.
Jioni hurried, but there still wasn’t enough time: she made the bold move to jump and landed on the arm she had no feeling in. Kathy shimmied down a bit more and then jumped; she almost landed on her feet but stumbled as she hit the ground; Jioni grabbed Kathy as they ran to get out of the way; then fell to the ground in exhaustion.
