“You should go home. It’s not safe right now,” LaMesha said. “Do you need help getting back?”
“I’ll be fine,” Jioni said.
“Are you sure?”
LaMesha picked up her revolver and dusted it off—flipped it around and checked for any scuffs and scratches. Now that the street was clear, LaMesha figured she had time to report Jioni and Katherine to City Hall. She frowned and wondered if she should even report them—the debate plagued her as early as yesterday. The feeling of fraud overwhelmed her, so LaMesha paced away, but steps followed from behind.
“I’ll pass the next exam and get my lance,” Jioni said. She flipped her hair.
LaMesha sighed. “You and Katherine…” She started. “You two should know that actions have consequences—and it takes one selfish action to cause irreversible harm.”
LaMesha started to walk away as she spoke.
“Keep out of trouble, and stay safe, Jioni.”
