The Luxurious Life: 6-17

Jioni sped up her ascent and didn’t sweat as she reached the top ledge. She lept and grabbed Derrin’s hand, and he pulled her through. Jioni forced the rest of herself inside and then sat, falling straight to the tower floor with a sigh. The Agent camp was a small area with a chair, water jug, and weapons. The draft was colder up here. Smoke and gunpowder filled the air, rose to the top, and disappeared into the sky. When either one of them exhaled, frost breath showed. Derrin folded his arms as he stared at Jioni, who was on the floor.

“The stairs, use the stairs next time, lizard,” Derrin said.

“Lizard?”

“That’s what you looked like climbing, a lizard. Don’t risk your life like that,” Derrin said as he lowered his sunglasses and put them back on.

Jioni put her hands on her hips. “The stairs are boring. There’s no fun in taking them.”
