Jolene blew kisses. “Tomorrow will be an interesting day.”

She then closed the door a little too hard, causing the lamp to fall.

The room was silent once more—quiet enough for overthinking to overpower. Brandon remained restless. His eyes were wide as he flipped his pillow multiple times. Though his bed was soft, it felt as if he slept on thorns. He shot up out of his bed. His bare feet shuffled on the ground. He picked up the lamp that Jolene had dropped.

“Go back to bed,” Brandon whispered to himself.
