Jioni couldn’t tell if he was joking or not. She stared with a blank expression. Then she smiled with a slight chuckle. Then the two began laughing.
“You? Prom king? Emmitt, never again say I’m the one in fantasyland,” Jioni said between chuckles.
“Laugh now, Jioni,” Emmitt grinned. “But both you and I know it’s true. If only there were a high school to prove me right—Um, speaking of, do you think there are schools in Outergen?”
Jioni paused. She thought about what Emmit said and knew it was accurate, but she didn’t want to admit it. She rubbed her shoulder and sat on the floor, back leaning against the door. Emmitt sat down too, and every time they looked at each other, he gave a you-know-I’m-right smile.
Jioni shrugged and then nodded.
